"Yes, that's a great idea. Let's go at night and try to get in. The two conspirators wanted to harm Daniel, so they climbed a ladder to spy on what Daniel was doing. They saw that he was praying to his God. "He's praying, I knew it! He prays three times a day, facing Jerusalem." "I have an idea, let's tell the king tomorrow." "I had the same idea, I can't wait to tell the king about our plan to discredit Daniel."
The two men were determined to make Daniel look bad in the eyes of the king. They knew that his devotion to God could be used against him, and they were eager to implement their sinister plan.
The next day, the conspirators went to the palace to speak with the king. "Majesty, we have an excellent idea to identify your enemies." "What is it?" asked King Darius. "Let's declare a thirty-day holiday throughout the kingdom, during which no one may pray to any god or human except Your Majesty, King Darius." "Yes, my lord. This way, we will find out who is loyal to you and who is not. If anyone disobeys the order, they will be thrown into the lions' den."
"I like the idea, but I need to consult Daniel first." "No, we can't! I mean, we don't have time for that." "Yes, my lord, we must enact this law immediately, there is no time to waste. Please put your seal on this order." "Hmm, don't worry, majesty. We will speak to Daniel and inform him about the new law. Please put your seal here, majesty." "Alright, here it is. Now it's official." "Thank you, sir."
The wise men tricked the king into passing a new law prohibiting the worship of any other god in the kingdom. Daniel heard about the new law, but he remained faithful to God and continued to pray three times a day, as he always did.
The conspirators were eager to implement their plan and hoped that Daniel's loyalty to God would turn against him. They were certain he would continue to pray, even with the new law in place, and this would give them the opportunity to accuse him before King Darius.
Three times a day, facing Jerusalem. "Look, he's praying to his God. He has broken the new law. Now we can throw him into the lions' den. The plan worked, we must inform the king." "Oh, King Darius!" "What is it now?" "Majesty, we have found someone breaking the new law." "Who is this terrible person?" "It is the Israelite Daniel." "Yes, my lord. We found him praying to his God three times a day, despite the warning." "Oh no, not him. I can't hurt him, he's my friend." "But, Majesty, the law states that no decree given by the king can be changed." "Yes, my lord, you cannot change the law now. We must throw Daniel to the lions." "What have I done? Daniel, I'm sorry. All right, take Daniel to the lions' den."
As planned by the conspirators, Daniel was caught and brought to the lions' den. "I'm sorry, Daniel. I was tricked into doing this." "I know, don't feel guilty. You have always been loyal to your God, maybe He will save you from the lions. Don't worry, I won't be alone down there." Daniel walked into the den and the soldier closed the entrance with a large stone.
The conspirators, satisfied with the success of their plan, watched from a distance as Daniel was lowered into the den. They were certain that Daniel's loyalty to God would condemn him. However, Daniel, confident in his faith, faced the darkness of the lions' den, believing that God could protect him.
King Darius sealed the opening of the den with his royal seal to ensure that no one could open the door. "Take care, my friend." "He's dead. We have won!" "Yes, now we can rule this land on our own. Let's go. We will come back tomorrow to collect the bones."
