9 Steps To Teach Your Dog To Sit

1. Start early.

Depending on the age of your pet, his learning may be faster or slower.
Although it is recommended that you teach your puppy to sit when he is still a puppy, it is never too late to start. Train, train, train, and NEVER give up. Oh, and since puppies tend to be more inattentive and scattered, we recommend that you use your favorite treats to help you with this mission.

2. Positive conditioning.

This step is vital for your puppy's learning, so you are allowed to use and abuse the treats (but sparingly,
don't stuff your pet censoring your puppy to sit on 3 chunks).
The first step in teaching your puppy to sit is to associate the movement of sitting, and the fact of winning the treat, with a word. First, try to use monosyllabic words to give the commands.
Puppies don't understand what the word means, but rather the tone of it, so it is much easier for them to record the tone in which you pronounce a short word than a long sentence.
You don't have to invent too much, just use the word "sit" is fine.

3. Positive conditioning 2.

This step is more of a Pet Angel tip, rather than a mandatory step. Try holding the treat with your thumb and index fingers and fold the rest of your fingers into your hand. Speak the command clearly and slowly. Make eye contact and be patient, your dog may take a while to understand the command, but as soon as he does, reward him.

4. Training the attention.

Start by bringing the treat closer to the dog's snout, about an inch or so away.
To teach your puppy to sit, try to get his attention by moving the treat gently from top to bottom. When the dog has his full attention on you, and especially the treat, it is time to go to step 5...
